Filoxenia Hotel & Spa in Kalavrita

I recently spent with my boyfriend a weekend in Filoxenia Hotel & Spa in Kalavrita. Kalavrita is a picturesque town in north Peloponnese just 191 km away from Athens.

The hotel is ideally located opposite the central square of the little town. Within a few meters you can find a wide choice of restaurants, cafe and shops selling traditional souvenirs. Close by there are some of the most important attractions of the area like the Rack Railway and the Municipal Museum of the Holocaust of Kalavrita.main-square-of-Kalavrita

Filoxenia Hotel and Spa is one of the first hotels in Kalavrita. It is a family run hotel with extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Once we arrived the staff at the reception gave us the key to our room and a map of the area with all the main attractions. They also were very kind to book for us tickets for the Rack Railway as it is very popular.

We took the elevator and went to our room at the second floor. The room was very spacious with wooden floors and furniture. The double bed was big and with a very comfortable mattress. Since it was winter the central heating was on and the room had the perfect temperature. An air-condition is available for the hot summer months. Other room amenities included tea and coffee facilities, a LCD TV, a mini bar, free wi-fi and a mini safe. There is also a big wardrobe available to store your clothes with extra blankets and pillows.

The bathroom was very nice and clean with a walk in shower with hydromassage, toiletries, towels, bathrobes and slippers.

Each room has its own balcony with views either at the central square or the town of Kalavrita and the mountain of Helmos.

One of the hotel’s special features is the Spa that is located in the ground floor. Each guest of the hotel can enjoy  a free treatment at the spa.  There is a choice between Sauna, Hammam or Hydro-massage. I chose the latter and it was the perfect end of a full day. There are also other services available like face and body treatments, hot stone massage etc.

Every morning a buffet style breakfast is served by the fireplace with a wide variety of food to choose from like cakes, croissants, cereal. eggs and home-made marmalade.

There is also a private parking space for your car although  there was ample car space on the road in front of the hotel.

I would highly recommend staying at Filoxenia Hotel & Spa if you want to explore the local attractions and if you are looking for a warm and friendly environment.

I was a guest at Filoxenia Hotel and Spa but as always opinions are my own.

Sharing is caring!

  1. Oh, this looks really lovely! I’m actually very curious about the spa treatment. SO many of the hotels I’ve stayed at have had only so-so spas (even if they advertise it right in the name….) but typically charge more. Did you find the hydro-massage to be better or worse than usual? Thank you for the review + pictures, they’re fantastic at getting an idea of what the stay is really like. Far preferable to Tripadvisor..

    • Thanks a lot Daphne. The hydro massage was just perfect. We were exploring all day and my back hurt so it was exactly what I needed. I didn’t try any of the massages available but were very reasonably priced for anyone as was the hotel.
