Hilton Athens – A luxury stay in the heart of the city

This post is also available in: French

Hilton Athens is considered one of the best luxury hotels in the city and I had the pleasure  to spend a weekend there. Hilton it’s not just a hotel, it’s a landmark of the city. Built in the 60’s is one of the city’s historic hotels with many celebrities having stayed over time.

Hilton Athens is ideally located in the heart of the city in Vassilissis Sofias Avenue. Most of Athens popular neighborhoods including Kolonaki and Plaka are within walking distance from the hotel. Kolonaki is an upmarket neighborhood with high-end boutiques, museums and restaurants. Plaka is a picturesque area with many attractions including the Acropolis.

Evangelismos metro station and a bus stop that both have direct access to the airport are conveniently located outside the hotel.

For a central and versatile location in Athens, I can’t possibly imagine a better hotel to stay at than Hilton.

The Room

We were allocated with an executive room with Acropolis views on the 11th floor. As soon as you enter the room you are drawn by the floor to ceiling windows that enjoy resplendent views of the city’s skyline and all its iconic emblems like the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. The room was spacious and practical with ample closet and storage space, high quality furniture and wood carpeting. In regards to decor, attention to detail has been considered down to the very last centimeter of the room. The bed was big and very comfortable with plush pillows and high quality linens.  The room also included a desc with an ergonomic chair, a LCD TV and a double sofa.

The marbled bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and a walk-in shower. Plush and comfy bathrobes and slippers were also provided along with a variety of toiletries and a high power hairdryer.

Other things that impressed me were the perfect temperature inside the room, the sound proof windows and the balcony with the incredible view.

Executive Room advantages

Your stay on an executive room has many benefits. First of all,  all executive rooms are on the top floors and there is a separate reception area. Guests have access to the executive lounge located on the 11th floor. The executive lounge with ceiling to floor windows enjoy incredible views of the city and the Acropolis. There is a complimentary breakfast served on the executive lounge and also light snacks and refreshments are available for the rest of the day.

Other advantages include access to the Hiltonia Spa with the internal heated pool, a fully equipped fitness center, a sauna and a steam room.

I was really impressed by all the extras that the executive rooms offer from the tasty snacks to the other amenities that I would recommend to anyone paying extra for an executive room.

As a guest on the executive rooms you have the opportunity to enjoy your breakfast at the executive lounge. Breakfast is also served in the Byzantine restaurant on the ground floor. I chose to have breakfast on the latter. The variety of food offered left me speechless. There was a huge choice of healthy foods including nuts, cereals, fresh fruits and yoghurt on the buffet along with an amazing choice of croissants and Danish pastries. This was of course along side a cooked breakfast and a choice of Greek delicacies like cheese pie and bougatsa. Having breakfast at Hilton is an experience itself.

Swimming Pool

A favorite part of my stay was relaxing at the swimming pool. The outdoor pool located on the ground floor of the hotel was absolutely heavenly. Surrounded by trees the 25x 15 m pool, the biggest hotel pool in Athens, looks like an oasis in the heart of the city especially in the warm summer months.

It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind on the luxurious sunbeds while you enjoy a light lunch,  smoothies  and cocktails from the Oasis Pool Bar & Grill.

Galaxy bar & Restaurant

As the night comes, the Galaxy bar & restaurant located on the top floor of the hotel is the place to be.  The bar and restaurant enjoy a phenomenal view of the city and especially at night when the city is illuminated.

A wide range of cocktails, wines, beers and spirits along with mouth-watering finger food is served at the bar.

Galaxy bar is considered one of the top bars with the best views of Athens and it’s an experience not to be missed.

My stay at Hilton Athens was an absolute delight from start to finish. The service, hospitality, facilities, food and rooms bring you the ultimate luxury and I would recommend Hilton to anyone planning  a trip to Athens.

I was a guest at Hilton Athens but as always opinions are my own.

  1. Great birds eye picture of that pool, great seller for the hotel. The perks of the 11th floor for views must be worth the exec prices.

  2. Greece looks so great and your hotel experience seems lush, I wouldnt mind staying in a hilton..but for now hostel beds and no breakfast for me 😛

  3. Can’t go wrong with a Hilton, you know you’re going to get a great room no matter what the price, good food and good facilities, I’d recommend them too! Although you’ve inspired me to check the Athens one out for my trip next summer, thanks Chrissy!

  4. I love Athens! I bet this hotel would be a big hit in the summer since they have a large pool. I’ll have to think about this next time we’re in Greece. Beautiful property!

  5. HI! What a beautiful hotel! We are a family of four heading to Athens this June. The kids will be 11 and 13. Would you consider this a family friendly hotel? Thanks!
