I recently had the chance to visit the newly opened Koursaros Fish & Sushi Restaurant, located in Kolonaki area at central Athens just 5 minutes away from Syntagma Square.
The Koursaros restaurant has a 20-year-old experience in fish and seafood as it has already two restaurants open; one in Drosia in the northern suburbs of Athens and one on the popular island of Mykonos.
As soon as I stepped into the restaurant I was immediately struck by the elegant yet cosy atmosphere. The restaurant was decorated in pastel colours and had some of the most comfortable armchairs. My friends and I were escorted to our table by the friendly staff.
We began our dinner with a cocktail. I had a Lychee Martini with vodka, lychee and house vanilla syrup. First came an amazing spicy crab tartar with yuzu truffle oil. It was so delicious and refreshing and for me was one of the highlights of our dinner.
Then, we tried a mixed salad with squid tempura and wasabi nuts and a mixed salad with shrimps mango and citrus vinegraitte. The mango complemented the shrimps and gave them an interesting touch.
A visit to the restaurant without tasting some sushi prepared by the famous Japanese Chef Take would be incomplete. We were served the seared salmon tartar on baby shrimp tempura with oyster flavour sauce. As I am not a fan of raw sushi, I was happy that the one we tried was cooked. Surprisingly, I found it delicious.
For the main course, we had an oven baked salmon filet marinated in light chilli paste with beetroot tartar and a shrimps risotto with white truffle olive oil. The risotto was the second highlight of our dinner. It was so rich and aromatic, one of the best risottos I have tasted.
For desserts, we had a Mousse Valrhona chocolate with a crunchy caramelised hazelnuts and an incredible Lemon pie made with lemon cream, almond crumble and crunchy merengue.
Koursaros fish and sushi bar is open both for lunch and dinner with the sushi menu available only for dinner. It is a great place for a business lunch, a romantic dinner for two or a family gathering.
My dining experience at the Koursaros Fish & Sushi restaurant was flawless from start to finish. The exquisite food alongside with the beautiful surroundings and the impeccable service made for a truly memorable dinner.
