2016 left with mixed feelings. It was a great year in terms of travel. I got to visit a number of places that weren’t under my radar and many that were on my bucket list for years. I saw my blog grow and I achieved most of my goals. I also met a lot of people in my travels and made new friends. It was also a difficult year for me as I had to deal with many personal and work issues. Most importantly 2016 taught me to follow my dreams and set goals. So let’s see where 2016 took me:
The New Year found me with my husband’s family in Volos where we visited some of Pelion’s villages, Aghios Lavrentios and Drakia. We then embarked on a 4-day road trip that took us to Meteora, the picturesque village of Metsovo where we got to stay in the amazing Katogi Averoff Hotel and winery and finally to the beautiful town of Ioannina. At the end of January, I spent a weekend celebrating the first year of Travel Bloggers Greece in Thermae Sylla Spa and Wellness Hotel in Edipsos Evia where we got to try the therapeutic properties of the thermal springs along with some amazing spa treatments. At the end of January, I also went for a day trip to Chania town in Crete for the second time.
In February I didn’t travel at all, but I spent some time exploring my hometown Athens where I did one of my favourite tours so far the Mythological Tour of Athens along with my fellow bloggers from Travel Bloggers Greece.
In March I explored further Athens with a free tour with a local from This is Athens and by doing a day trip to Sounion and the temple of Poseidon with Experience taxi tours and Travel Bloggers Greece. I also went on my first press trip to Nothern Greece and the area of Pieria, along with other members of Travel Bloggers Greece and many journalists from around the country. It was a fantastic trip exploring the home of the Olympian Gods.
April started with a press trip to Meteora with Travel Bloggers Greece and Meteora Thrones where we visited the monasteries of Meteora, hiked and watched the sunset. At the end of the month, I spent 5 days on the island of Lesvos in one of the most memorable trips of the year again with my fellow bloggers from TBG before spending the Easter holidays in Volos.
In May I spent three days in Mykonos exploring the island with my husband where we stayed in the amazing Kouros Hotel & Suites. May is the perfect time of the year to visit Mykonos as the weather is great and it isn’t so crowded. I then spent another weekend with one of my best friends on the breathtaking island of Santorini where we stayed at Esperas Hotel in Oia and did a private day tour of the island with Dandelion Tours.
June started with an incredible weekend exploring the area of Mani in Peloponnese and by staying in Petra & Fos boutique hotel. At the end of June, I got married in Athens and started a 2 week trip to Italy.
As part of our honeymoon, we visited the beautiful town of Florence, many picturesque villages of Tuscany like Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza etc. We then spent a few days on the Ligurian coast exploring Cinque Terre, Portofino and other amazing places before spending three days in Italy’s capital Rome doing some sightseeing and shopping. I spent the rest of July in Athens where I did a great food tour with Culinary Backstreets.
I spent all August in Athens working but I did get the chance to eat in some restaurants with the best views of Athens; Point A rooftop restaurant, Galaxy Bar & restaurant and the Acropolis museum. I also spent a weekend at my uncle’s house in Karpenisi.
At the end of September, I spent a few days in Naxos town, an island I definitely want to go back and Donousa island, a small paradise in the Aegean Sea. We stayed in the beautiful Makares apartments where we could hear the sound of the sea as we were falling asleep every night. September is a great month to visit the Greek islands.
In October I did an evening tour of Athens with Greeking Me before embarking on a three-day trip with Travel Bloggers Greece to Nafpaktos in Western Greece. We had an amazing time exploring the town, picking chestnuts from the woods and doing horseback riding. My husband and I then spent a romantic weekend at Palazzo Victoria hotel in Verona.
November was a busy month. I spent 10 days in London with my blogger friends. We attended the World Travel Market, a tourism exhibition
and then we did some wonderful things around London that included High Tea at the Berkeley, a food tour in Soho, dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel, watching London from above at the Shard and the London Eye. After getting back from London I spent a weekend in Thessaloniki where I met my blogger friends from there, attended another exhibition called Philoxenia and explored the city. Thessaloniki is a place I want to come back in the future. The last days of November found me again in Nothern Greece for a press trip to a totally unknown area of Greece, Kilkis.
After a busy November I stayed in Athens, working. I did had a great dinner at Koursaros fish & Sushi Restaurant and incredible cocktails at the rooftop bar of St George Lycabettus hotel. December was an amazing month for me as on the last working day of the yaer I left my 9-5 job, something I was dreaming for a long time.
My resolution for 2017 is to exercise more, eat healthier, spend more time with my loved ones and travel more. I have already made some travel plans for 2017 which they include 3 days at a spa resort in Greece, a few days exploring Belgium in January and 8 days around the Netherlands in March.
Happy New Year and thanks for supporting Travel Passionate in 2016!
