Boutique Bliss at the Hotel Klarov in Prague

The Hotel Klarov, a member of the Asten Hotels is located in Prague’s Mala Strana neighborhood, just below the Prague Castle and around the corner from the Charles Bridge. It’s very central location puts all of Prague’s most famous attractions within easy walking distance. Recently, I stayed at the Hotel Klarov for 4 nights during my visit to Prague.

About the Hotel

The building in which the Hotel Klarov is now was built in 1889 in the Neo-Baroque style of the era. Mala Strana, the neighbourhood, means “lesser town,” or “little quarter,” as it is right below the castle. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural heritage. Most of the buildings here were built in the Baroque style following a large fire in the 1540s, and at that time nobility built their palaces here (as opposed to across the river in New Town).

Asten Hotels took over the building in 2014 and created a small, 25-room boutique hotel. Taking inspiration from famous singers, musicians, and bands who have performed in Prague over the last 25 years, the hoteliers renovated each room to a unique, luxurious standard.

Common spaces include the breakfast room, a lovely French-style garden, and a small, chic club lounge. Breakfast, which is included in the room rate, is served in either the breakfast room or the garden. It consists of Illy coffee, Ronnefeldt teas, freshly baked bread and pastries, healthy granola, fresh fruits, yogurts, Bonne Maman jams, an extensive array of cheeses and meats, and more. It was simply amazing!

Hotel Klarov’s French-style courtyard is the perfect place to either begin the day with fresh coffee and croissant or end the day with a glass of wine and some appetisers. It can be rented for private events like weddings, receptions, or corporate meetings.

Homemade cookies and water are available anytime at reception. We received a bottle of wine and chocolates in the room upon arrival, and also a packet of yummy cookies when we checked out.

Rooms at the Hotel Klarov

All of the rooms have their own distinct design, inspired by musicians like Joan Baez, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Bob Dylan, and Beyonce. With only 25 rooms, the hotel is small, but the rooms are spacious and well laid out for singles, couples, or families. There are six different room types, including a two bedroom suite that can be created from the Castle View Suite and an adjoining Superior Room.

We stayed in a junior suite named for British pop singer Robbie Williams. As Robbie is one of my favorite singers, I was very excited! Each room shares little details about the musician it’s named for, so I got to learn a little more about Robbie’s life and career. It even comes with a picture of the singer, musician, or band and there are big block letters on the walls naming each person or band after whom the room is named.

The junior suite has separate living and sleeping spaces. Both are spacious and luxurious. The style is modern but comfortable, and the colors are soothing greys and creams with pops of bright turquoise. The junior suite features a king size bed, which can be made into two twins, a small seating area, a large workspace in the living room, an espresso machine, plush towels and bathrobes, and l’Occitane toiletries in the bathroom. Our desk was styled like a piano; it even had the piano keys painted on to the front edge of the writing surface!

Large windows opened on to the streets of Mala Strana. The junior suites have views of the government palace and river. The Castle view suite, Ambassador suite, and the two-bedroom suite have castle views. There is also a garden suite with views of the interior French courtyard.
