A Luxury Stay at the Mövenpick City Centre Hotel Amsterdam

Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam is a luxury riverside hotel located at the heart of the city. It offers 408 rooms with breathtaking views over the river, a health and fitness centre, state of the art meeting rooms, a restaurant and a bar.  On my recent visit to Amsterdam, I spent two nights at the hotel and I would like to share my experience with you.

Location

Mövenpick Hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Amsterdam, close to its numerous attractions. Schiphol airport is only 20 minutes away by train. Amsterdam’s Central station is easily accessible by a 12-minute walk, by taking tram number 26 (only one stop away) or by taking the hotel’s free shuttle bus that runs every half an hour from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm. During my stay, I used all modes of transportation mentioned. Mövenpick is also the ideal place to stay if you are doing a cruise starting or ending in Amsterdam as the Cruise Terminal is right next to the hotel.

Check-in at the Mövenpick Hotel

As soon as we stepped into the hotel we were greeted by the concierge team and headed towards the reception area.  We received a warm welcome by the lady at the reception who checked us in and explained all the facilities in the hotel. Apart from professional, she was also very friendly; she asked us about our flight, if it was our first time in Amsterdam and if we needed any help with the sightseeing.  During our stay, the guest service team helped us numerous times with questions I had about Amsterdam, attractions and shopping. I think you rarely find such a personal service, especially in large chain hotels.

Our Executive Room

I was happy to find out that we were upgraded to an executive room on the 20th floor. Our room was very spacious and modernly decorated. It had ample storage space for our luggage, a fully stocked mini bar complimentary for executive guests, tea and coffee making facilities including a Nespresso machine, a safe, a super fast Wi-Fi internet connection and a cable TV with videos on demand. Other room amenities included a big desk area perfect for business guests and a sitting area by the window with the most comfortable armchair.

A welcome gift of delicious Swiss Mövenpick chocolate, jam and fresh fruits was waiting at our room which was a nice touch. We also received a telephone call from the guest relations welcoming us at the hotel and asking if we had any other wishes.

Our king size bed with the organic fair-trade linen was super comfortable but the highlight was the pillow menu available. Having a pillow that suits your needs is a decisive factor for a good night’s sleep.

The bathroom was also big and had a bathtub with shower, a vanity mirror, ECO by Green Culture toiletries, a hair- dryer, slippers, fluffy towels and bathrobes.

The highlight of our room was the impressive view over the river and the city of Amsterdam. I think I passed hours sitting there, enjoying the view and watching the ships and canal cruise boats pass by.

Every evening, that we returned to our room from sightseeing bottles of water and Swiss chocolates were waiting for us.

The Executive Lounge

The executive rooms come with access to the executive lounge located on the 2nd floor of the hotel where you can enjoy drinks and light snacks daily from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm.

In-Room Dining

One night I was pretty tired to go out for dinner and decided to try the in – room dining service. I placed my order by phone and within 20 minutes a delicious burger was delivered in my room.

Breakfast

The buffet style breakfast was served in the Silk Road Restaurant on the second floor. A great variety of food was on offer from healthy options like yoghurt, fresh fruit, muesli to cooked food, cheese and ham stands to whatever you can imagine. I was impressed by the smoothies available each morning and the honey served straight from the honeycomb.

Sleep Individually Different at the Mövenpick Hotel

Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam has new concept rooms called Mövenpick Sleep Rooms. These rooms are situated in a quiet area of the hotel, they have blackout curtains, amenities that include earplugs, eye masks, fragrance sachets and even black out stickers for the lights on the electronic devices. Most importantly the have this fantastic beds that adapt to your weight, body shape and sleeping position and with a press of the button, you can adjust how firm you want the mattress in the hip and shoulder area. A pillow menu is also available to ensure the best sleep possible. I find that this “Sleep Individually Different” concept is a reason alone to stay at the hotel.

Mövenpick Sustainability Program

I was happy to discover that Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts are sustainable and socially responsible. Specifically, Mövenpick Amsterdam Hotel is a Green Globe, Gold member certified hotel. For example, they recycle and re-use material, they have eco-flush toilets and use ecologically friendly cleaning products. They support the local community as 90% of the products used are made by Dutch producers. They also participate in a program called Made Blue through which for every litre of water saved by the hotel an equal amount of clean water is offered to developing countries around the world.

The Mövenpick City Centre Hotel offers everything I could ask for in a luxury city hotel; elegant rooms, impeccable service, the most helpful staff and the best location. If you are traveling to Amsterdam, I highly recommend that you stay in the Mövenpick City Centre Hotel.
